Figurative Painting Course: 4 Hours, 40 Minutes
About the Instructor: Zhaoming Wu
For the past two decades, many of the finest artists to enter the American art scene have hailed from China. Their knowledge and talents merge into a convoluted path from the 19th Century Masters down to us today. Zhaoming Wu is one of those artists.
While Western art culture explored abstraction, the classical study and practice of painting continued in China, influenced by the Russian schools. With the easing of tensions, many classically trained Chinese artists immigrated to the United States, bringing their long-lost expertise back to America.
As a leading faculty member at the San Francisco Academy of Art, Zhaoming Wu instructs and mentors artists in the graduate program in representative painting and drawing. In this video series, “Zhaoming Wu: Solitude,” he brings us a magnificent gift of knowledge.
What You Will Learn in “Zhaoming Wu: Solitude”
We had the great privilege of filming Zhaoming Wu in his home studio painting a lovely model swathed in cascading folds of material—a subject for which he is becoming known as a master.
In this start-to-finish demonstration, Zhaoming Wu uniquely articulates:
- What makes a painting work, from composition to final touches.
- His personal step-by-step approach to the painting process.
- How he works from the live model, photo references, and computer references in his professional gallery work.
- The secrets behind his masterful handling of light, form, and fabric.
