3 Ways that Coaches Differ from Instructors
- Coaches have a plan, instructors tend to teach a randomized sequence: Coaches have a comprehensive plan ready to elicit effective change in your body – their plans are grounded in kinesiology and biomechanics, they teach movement that is structured to make sense in your nervous system so that the conditioning that you do in class helps your body reprogram and build sustainable strength. Instructors typically lead you through a sequence that isn’t structured in a manner that your nervous system will accept and integrate effectively.
- Coaches teach movement from simple to complex: By reverse engineering the conditioning that they teach you, breaking it into accessible components, and incorporating joint mobility that corresponds to the muscle groups in the conditioning circuit, coaches help your body identify & learn new movement patterns to effectively build strength & move better. What is Flow State?
Researching scientists J. Nakamura and M. Csíkszentmihályi describe six factors encompassing this optimal experience of flow. These aspects can appear independently of each other, but in combination they foster this experience of flow.

Summer Huntington holds a Masters in Kinesiology, an advanced 500 Hour Yoga Teacher training and has over 20,000 hours of movement coaching experience. She founded a comprehensive strength & yoga curriculum in 2011, and has taught her seminars globally. Summer is an expert in both Flow psychological applications as well as training applications, and specializes in mobility education. Her thesis examined Worksite Wellness interventions, and she continues to consult privately for Corporate Wellness clients, as well as in her signature Flow State of Mind Coaching. She owns and operates two local fitness studios, an online studio and a leads a team of wellness professionals, all in Flow.
